President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced on Sunday that as the previously abandoned Ajaokuta Steel Complex nears completion, it will have the potential to employ 500,000 Nigerians once designated as a free trade zone. He also pledged to fully utilize the Complex to boost foreign direct investment and create a conducive business environment.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing the President, made these remarks during the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign kickoff in Lokoja, Kogi State. Shettima highlighted Tinubu’s commitment to complete infrastructure projects and stimulate Nigeria’s economy.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the state and the center for progress, mentioning plans for the Itakpe crop processing project, job creation, and affordable education.
Shettima urged Kogi citizens to vote for APC’s candidate, Ahmed Usman Ododo, on November 11, to build on the achievements of the APC government. He also mentioned President Tinubu’s approval for the rehabilitation of Obajana-Okene road in Kogi State.
Kogi State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and called for support to move the state forward. APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, stressed the importance of continuity, citing Governor Bello’s good governance.
Kogi State APC governorship candidate, Ahmed Ododo, pledged to prioritize security, education, agriculture, health, and women’s empowerment if elected.
The campaign rally included other dignitaries like Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, among others.
Vice President Shettima also engaged with traditional rulers and stakeholders in Kogi State, seeking support for the APC candidate and receiving endorsements from the Attah of Igala and others for President Tinubu’s efforts in addressing security challenges in the state.
