In a joint press statement issued on Tuesday by the White House, leaders from the US, the UK, Germany, France, and Italy condemned Hamas’ invasion, asserting their support for Israel’s right to defend itself. The leaders emphasized that no party should exploit the attacks for personal gain.
The statement, endorsed by President Macron, Chancellor Scholz, Prime Minister Meloni, Prime Minister Sunak, and President Biden, expressed unequivocal condemnation of Hamas and its acts of terrorism. The leaders rejected any justification for terrorism and decried recent atrocities committed by Hamas, including massacres, kidnappings, and acts of terror.
Emphasizing solidarity, the leaders pledged ongoing support for Israel’s defense against such atrocities while cautioning against exploiting the situation. They recognized the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people and affirmed their commitment to justice and freedom for both Israelis and Palestinians. However, they underscored that Hamas does not represent these aspirations, offering only terror and bloodshed.
The leaders vowed unity in the days ahead, pledging coordinated efforts as allies and friends of Israel to foster a peaceful and integrated Middle East. Meanwhile, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman, Jonathan Conricus, likened the conflict to the historic “war on terror,” drawing parallels with 9/11. Conricus, in a video update posted on social media, expressed concern over the significant casualties in what he termed as one of Israel’s darkest moments.
