Oyo Advisory Council Salutes Makinde on Peace, Security at 66th Independence
The Oyo State Advisory Council has congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde, the government and people of Oyo State, as well as Nigerians, on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of Nigeria’s Independence.
The Chairman of the Council, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, SAN, OFR, in a congratulatory message, described the Independence anniversary as an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey and renew their commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous and united nation.
Ayorinde said Nigeria was at a defining moment in its history, stressing that the aspirations of millions of Nigerians, particularly young people, women, workers, farmers, entrepreneurs, professionals and senior citizens, depended largely on purposeful governance and strong public institutions.
He called for sustained commitment to peace and security across Oyo State and the country, noting that meaningful development could only take place in an environment where lives and property were adequately protected.
According to him, safe and secure communities would enable farmers to cultivate their land, businesses to thrive, children to attend school and families to live without fear.
The Council Chairman urged stakeholders to support initiatives centred on dialogue, intelligence-led security, conflict prevention and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
He also urged residents of Oyo State to use the Independence Day celebration to reflect on their responsibilities to the state and the nation, stressing the need for citizens to demonstrate patriotism through their daily conduct.
The Council said Independence Day should not be limited to celebrations, ceremonies and speeches, but should also serve as a reminder of citizens’ responsibilities to the common good through respect for lawful institutions, mutual respect and active participation in community development.
Ayorinde further urged Governor Makinde, as he continues to lead Oyo State and pursue his political aspirations as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), to remain committed to integrity, fairness, compassion and courage in public leadership.
The Council reaffirmed its support for what it described as Governor Makinde’s “Reset Agenda”, particularly its emphasis on inclusive development, accountable leadership, economic renewal, youth empowerment, social cohesion and the protection of democratic values.
The Council congratulated Governor Makinde, the people of Oyo State and Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary, while calling for collective efforts towards building a nation where peace, security, dignity and opportunity are accessible to all.
The statement was signed by Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, SAN, OFR, Chairman of the Council, and Mr Babatunde A. Giwa, Secretary, on behalf of the members.Editorial note
