The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has commended Muslim journalists in the state for their resilience, dedication, and commitment to their professional duties throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement signed by the Chairman, Ademola Babalola, and released by the Secretary, Sola Oladapo, the council acknowledged the challenges that come with fasting while carrying out journalistic responsibilities. It praised Muslim journalists for their ability to balance their spiritual obligations with their professional duties.

The NUJ highlighted that Ramadan is a period of self-discipline, sacrifice, and devotion, values that align with the ethics of journalism, which requires dedication, integrity, and perseverance. The statement further noted that the perseverance displayed by Muslim journalists during this period is commendable and worthy of emulation.

Furthermore, the NUJ encouraged Christian journalists to remain steadfast in their prayers as they observe the ongoing Lenten season. It emphasized the importance of spiritual growth and self-reflection for all journalists, regardless of their religious affiliations, as a means of maintaining personal and professional integrity.

The council also called on all media practitioners in Oyo State to continue upholding the highest standards of journalism. It urged them to remain objective, fair, and ethical in their reportage while embracing the values of unity and mutual respect among colleagues of different faiths.

In addition, the NUJ reaffirmed its commitment to supporting journalists in the state by promoting an inclusive and harmonious work environment where diversity is respected, and everyone is encouraged to thrive.

As Ramadan draws to a close, the NUJ wished all Muslim journalists a rewarding and spiritually fulfilling Eid-el-Fitr celebration. It also encouraged them to carry forward the lessons of the holy month, such as patience, generosity, and kindness, into their daily lives and professional engagements.
