The Borno State Police Command has arrested four suspects over an alleged fraud involving the unauthorised withdrawal of N285,000 from a resident’s account and recovered 40 OPay and Moniepoint ATM cards from them.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed this in a statement, saying the incident followed a report by one Unus Burum, a resident of Shuwari II, Maiduguri.
According to Daso, the incident occurred yesterday when two young men approached Burum, claiming to be agents of Moniepoint and offering to help him increase his transaction limit.
He said the victim handed over his mobile phone to the men for assistance, but they allegedly used the opportunity to access his account and withdraw N285,000 without his authorisation.
Following the report, operatives of the State Intelligence Department launched an investigation and traced the point-of-sale transactions to the agents involved.
Daso said further investigations led to the arrest of four suspects, who reportedly confessed to their involvement in the alleged fraud.
