The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Chapter, has expressed its heartfelt appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for his recent appointment of two former union leaders as Permanent Secretaries in the state. This comes just days after the Southwest Leaders of the NUJ commended the Governor for hosting the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Ibadan, an event that brought together journalists from across the country.

The appointees, Rotimi Babalola and Adeola Oduola, have made notable contributions to the Union. Babalola served as the NUJ State Secretary from 2010 to 2016, while Oduola was Assistant State Secretary from 2016 to 2019 and later served as State Ex-Officio from 2019 to 2022.

In a statement jointly signed by Comrade Ademola Babalola (Chairman) and Sola Oladapo (Secretary), the NUJ described the appointments as unprecedented in the history of the Union in Oyo State. The Union leaders noted that the Governor’s consistent support for journalists, including his sponsorship of workshops, donation of a new bus, and his financial backing for both local and national NUJ events, has been invaluable.

The statement further highlighted that Governor Makinde’s commitment to the welfare of journalists was recognized in 2022 when he was decorated as the Best Media-Friendly Governor in Oyo State’s history. His latest appointment of the two former Union leaders to such prestigious positions underscores his ongoing dedication to the growth and well-being of journalists in the state.

The Oyo NUJ reiterated that these appointments are not only significant milestones for the individuals involved but also a testament to Governor Makinde’s continued support for the media community in Oyo State.
