Sanusi Intervenes in 200 Communities as 250 Seek Electricity, Water Support
Popular Ibadan-based philanthropist and Okanlomo Oodua, Jubril Dotun Sanusi, has disclosed that more than 250 communities have approached him for intervention in the provision of electricity and potable water.
Chief Sanusi said he has continued to work tirelessly to provide relief for affected communities, stressing that lack of access to basic amenities remains one of the major challenges confronting people at the grassroots.
According to him, interventions have so far been successfully executed in about 200 communities, while efforts are ongoing to extend assistance to the remaining 50 communities through his personal contacts and resources.
The philanthropist explained that the interventions are aimed at complementing government efforts and reducing the hardship faced by residents in underserved communities.
Chief Sanusi, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, disclosed this while hosting the newly inaugurated executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, led by its Chairman, Akeem Abas, at the resort in Akanran, Ibadan.
In a statement issued by the Secretary of the Oyo NUJ, Dayo Adu, the Okanlomo Oodua noted that the increasing number of requests from communities reflects the level of hardship being experienced by many Nigerians, thereby placing more responsibility on philanthropists and well-meaning individuals.
He further explained that intervention meetings are held quarterly with beneficiary communities to assess their needs, monitor the progress of projects, and ensure sustainability of completed interventions.
Chief Sanusi added that government officials are often invited to the commissioning of projects to expose them to the realities at the grassroots and encourage prompt government action toward addressing community challenges.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ, Oyo State Council, Comrade Abas, congratulated Chief Sanusi on his installation as the Okanlomo Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Abas also commended the philanthropist for his support for the NUJ as a patron and for his contributions to journalism through the establishment of Ilaji FM, while appealing for continued support for journalists and the union in Oyo State.
