Senator Gbenga Daniel Commended for Role in Yoruba Unity and Development

A respected voice within the Yoruba socio-political space, Mr. Kola Are, has extolled the leadership qualities and contributions of Senator Gbenga Daniel, describing him as a statesman whose interventions have continued to strengthen unity and development across Yorubaland.

Are, in a statement, noted that Otunba Daniel’s track record as a businessman and politician has been marked by service, courage, and commitment to the Yoruba people. He recalled that long before his emergence as the Governor of Ogun State in 2003, Daniel had shown deep concern for the region’s political and social progress through active involvement in pro-democracy struggles.

According to him, Ogun State, which was largely seen as a civil service-dependent state before 2003, experienced a new wave of collaborative development and strategic growth under Daniel’s administration as governor between 2003 and 2011.

Highlighting Daniel’s reconciliatory roles, Are pointed to the peace process midwifed by the former governor in 2005 between the two factions of the Oodua People’s Congress, led by the late Dr. Frederick Fasehun and Iba Gani Adams, a truce that has endured till today.

He further recalled Daniel’s participation in settling political disagreements in the aftermath of the 1999 presidential primaries of the Alliance for Democracy, noting that such efforts contributed to sustaining the Fourth Republic.

Now serving as the Senator representing Ogun East, Are said Daniel has continued to make impact by sponsoring several bills, including those seeking the establishment of the South-West Development Commission and a Naval Base at Ogun Waterside, among others currently at various stages in the Senate.

“As an Egba man, I can attest that Senator Gbenga Daniel has consistently demonstrated genuine love for his people. His leadership style reflects dedication and service, and it is important that we recognize and support such quality representation,” Are said.
