Dr. Olukemi Afolayan, the new Director of the National Orientation Agency, echoed a rallying cry on the airwaves of YES FM. Urging all Nigerians to unite with the government, she emphasized the collective responsibility in rebuilding the nation.
During the “Politics Now” radio talk-show, Dr. Afolayan tackled questions about the agency’s functions and activities. With a plea for patience, she assured the public that the Federal Government is diligently addressing the challenges, utilizing constant feedback from the agency.
Addressing issues of discrimination against the girl-child, Dr. Afolayan encouraged them to embrace self-esteem and reject the notion of settling for second place. Drawing inspiration from figures like Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, she emphasized the need to invest in girls’ rights for a lasting impact on society.
Acknowledging the agency’s rebound, Dr. Afolayan credited former directors for laying a solid foundation. When quizzed on countering the surge of fake news, she outlined intensified efforts to educate the public and media on responsible reporting.
Dr. Afolayan unveiled plans to expand the “Do the Right Thing, Transform Nigeria” program to private institutions and extend the reach of Integrity Clubs in Oyo state secondary schools. Her parting words urged citizens to actively fulfill their constitutional duties, emphasizing that overcoming present challenges requires collective effort, as no external savior awaits.
