Oyo NOA and NCC Forge Partnership to Combat Telecom Infrastructure Vandalism
The Oyo State National Orientation Agency (NOA) has joined forces with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in a strategic collaboration aimed at protecting telecom infrastructure in the state. This partnership is a direct response to the growing threat of vandalism, which carries both economic and social repercussions.
The partnership was formalized during a meeting between Dr. Olubunmi Banjoko, the NCC’s management team leader, and Dr. Olukemi Afolayan, the Director of Oyo State NOA. The discussion focused on ways to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting telecom infrastructure. With NOA’s broad reach and trusted presence, the NCC hopes to engage communities at the grassroots level to emphasize the need for safeguarding these critical assets.
Vandalism of telecom infrastructure has far-reaching consequences, including:
Disruptions in Network Services: Interruptions in communication that can affect both businesses and individuals.
Traffic Congestion: Leading to gridlocks and an increased risk of accidents.
Loss of Productivity: Hindering economic growth and development.
Breakdown in Communication: Disrupting emergency response systems, thereby compromising public safety
As part of the partnership, both agencies will work together on a series of initiatives to address the issue. NOA will take the lead on public sensitization through grassroots campaigns and advocacy programs. To enhance reporting, the agencies plan to launch new channels, including a WhatsApp line, Instagram page, and dedicated shortcodes for reporting suspicious activities.
Additionally, NOA will collaborate with security agencies to identify, apprehend, and prosecute individuals involved in vandalizing telecom infrastructure.
“The NOA has a broad mandate that covers all government agencies, and we will utilize our platforms to educate and discourage lawbreakers from attacking critical government infrastructure,” said Dr. Olukemi Afolayan, Director of Oyo State NOA.
Dr. Olubunmi Banjoko, Zonal Controller at NCC, emphasized the importance of telecom infrastructure security: “The protection of telecom infrastructure is a priority for the Nigerian Communications Commission, and we will continue to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure its safety.”
This partnership between the Oyo State NOA and NCC is seen as a crucial step in addressing the challenges of vandalism and ensuring the security of telecom infrastructure. By combining their efforts, both agencies aim to create a safer, more connected community that fosters economic
growth and development.
