Immanuel College Alumni Celebrated for Their Remarkable Contribution at 89 Set Renovation Even

 

The alumni of Immanuel College High School, Orita UI, Agbowo Area, Ibadan—Class of 1989, popularly known as Peculiar 89 Set—were celebrated for their remarkable contribution during a recent renovation event that marked their reunion to their alma mater 35 years after graduating. The event highlighted their generosity and commitment to giving back to the institution that shaped their foundation.

 

The event drew commendations from key government officials, including the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade Onala, and his counterpart from Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Akinyele Akinleye. Both leaders lauded the alumni’s efforts, noting that their actions are a shining example for the current generation of students.

 

Hon. Seun praised their contribution, stating that such gestures would inspire students to recognize the importance of giving back to the institutions that helped shape their paths. He further acknowledged that alumni support had significantly assisted local governments by contributing to key infrastructure projects.

 

His counterpart from Akinyele local government added a call to action, urging both the school management and alumni members to ensure the proper maintenance of the completed projects. He emphasized the need to adopt a culture of maintenance to ensure the sustainability of infrastructure investments and called on alumni and school administrators to join forces with the school board to safeguard these efforts.

 

 

Mr. Abbey Umoru Alliu, President of the Class of 1989, popularly known as Peculiar 89 Set, delivered an inspiring speech during the handing-over ceremony at the school premises. In his address, Mr. Abbey explained that the renovation of the dilapidated roof of the administrative block was more than just a physical improvement—it was an act of gratitude to Almighty God for sustaining them through life and allowing them to witness this significant milestone 35 years after leaving the institution.

 

He reflected on the memories shared with his classmates and the divine grace that has kept most of them alive to celebrate this day, even though some of their classmates have passed on. Mr. Abbey expressed profound gratitude to his peers for their unwavering support and leadership throughout the journey. He also extended special thanks to all members of the committee, especially the Committee Chairman, Mr. Mojoyinola Francis Oluwaseyi, for their dedication and commitment to ensuring the success of the project.

 

In his speech,Mr. Mojoyinola Francis Oluwaseyi, the Planning Committee Chairman, expressed his appreciation to the leadership of Peculiar ’89 Set for trusting him with the responsibility of serving in this role. He highlighted the spirit of determination within the alumni group, saying, “When there is a will, there is always a way,” emphasizing their collective resolve to achieve the project’s success.

 

He also commended all the committee members and alumni for their moral and financial contributions, which made the project possible.

 

In her reaction, The principals of both the Senior and Junior Schools of Immanuel College High School expressed heartfelt gratitude to the alumni for their support and generosity. They specifically acknowledged the renovation of the administrative block, a once-dilapidated structure that had suffered extensive flooding and left students and their belongings submerged.

 

Mrs. Odeleye Esther, Principal of Immanuel College High School Senior who spoke onbehalf of the school, noted that while government efforts had previously attempted to rehabilitate the building, the scale of the work and limited resources hindered its full restoration. She commended the alumni for stepping in and successfully transforming the structure into a functional and beautiful addition to the school’s infrastructure.

 

The Senior Prefect of Immanuel College High School also expressed his gratitude onbehalf of all the students in the school during the event. He highlighted the significance of the alumni’s efforts, particularly their role in rescuing the administrative block. The Senior Prefect noted that their actions would inspire the current students to strive to follow their footsteps and become proud representatives of Immanuel College High School in their future endeavors.

 

The event, therefore, not only celebrated the tangible restoration of the school’s infrastructure but also reinforced a message of unity, commitment, and the enduring impact of giving back.
