NOA Pays Tribute to Late Former President Buhari, Enforces National Flag Mourning Directive
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing him as a leader who left an enduring legacy of service, integrity, and national renewal.
In a statement signed by the Agency’s Deputy Director of Communications and Media, Paul Odenyi, the Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, noted that the Agency joins millions of Nigerians in mourning the former President, whose contributions to the nation spanned both military and civilian leadership roles.
In line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the national flag be flown at half-mast for seven days, the NOA announced that it will oversee and ensure full compliance with the order across public institutions nationwide. The Agency also urged private organizations and the general public to join in the symbolic act of lowering the national flag as a mark of honour and respect for the late leader.
“This moment of national loss calls for deep reflection and recognition of a man who served Nigeria with courage and a profound commitment to integrity,” Issa-Onilu said. “His vision for a renewed Nigeria, driven by patriotism, anti-corruption efforts, and strong institutions, remains a beacon for the country.”
He emphasized that the mourning directive should not be seen as a mere ceremonial gesture, but as a meaningful expression of national unity, gratitude, and respect. He called on citizens to not only fly the flag at half-mast but also to embody the values that President Buhari stood for throughout his lifetime.
“As we lower our flags, may we lift up our shared hopes for a stronger and more united Nigeria,” the NOA boss prayed.
The late President Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s Head of State between 1983 and 1985, and as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.
