Dr. Adams Akewula, a senior lecturer at the Islamic Studies Department of Arabic University of Ibadan, emphasized the crucial need for both citizens and authorities to execute their responsibilities with integrity and a reverence for divine principles.

Addressing attendees at a Ramadan Lecture hosted by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Oyo State Directorate in Agodi, Ibadan, Dr. Akewula highlighted the imperative of fostering good governance to steer the nation towards advancement.

Under the theme “Managing Hard Times: An Islamic Perspective,” Dr. Akewula pinpointed corruption, fueled by greed and self-interest, as a primary catalyst for the prevailing socio-economic hurdles confronting the nation.

He implored individuals to eschew unpatriotic behaviors, advocating instead for a collective commitment to national welfare.

Delving into the nation’s past missteps, Dr. Akewula urged those in positions of power to govern with a consciousness of divine accountability. He also called upon citizens to fulfill their civic duties diligently, fostering societal harmony.

In her welcoming address, Dr. Olukemi Afolayan-Owolabi, Director of NOA, Oyo State, urged compassionate Nigerians to extend support to the less fortunate during Ramadan, echoing the altruistic examples set by Prophet Muhammad. She appealed for prayers for national unity, peace, and progress, underscoring the importance of divine guidance for leaders entrusted with steering the nation.

Representatives from various organizations including the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Correctional Service, and Federal Fire Service echoed the call for unity across tribal, religious, and political lines.

The event concluded with prayers for peaceful coexistence, national security, good governance, and the welfare of Nigerians, emphasizing the collective aspiration for a prosperous and harmonious society.

Attendees included Islamic clerics, political officeholders, members of the Muslim community, and representatives from the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Oyo State, showcasing a unified commitment to national betterment.
